Portslade youngsters brighten up local doctors’ surgery with happy art

Primary school children from Portslade came up with the right medicine when patients asked their doctors for something more cheerful in the waiting room than boring old posters.

Links Road Surgery teamed up with nearby Brackenbury Primary School for an art competition with the theme of “what makes you happy”.

Today (Tuesday 25 July) Steve Cribb, the surgery’s practice manager, visited Brackenbury, in Locks Hill, at Southern Cross, to hand out Toys R Us vouchers as prizes to the artistic young pupils.

Mr Cribb helped judge the competition with Dr Julie Ebbage and Brackenbury head Lizzie Mullarky.

He said: “The competition came out of our patient participation group. They wanted a bit of colour in the surgery.

“The theme is what makes you happy and the pictures are really bright and cheerful.

“We were amazed with the quality of the artwork and we’re really looking forward to putting them up in the surgery.”

There were two competitions for older and younger pupils with 1st prizes going to to Niamh (Y2) and Leila (Y6).

The 2nd prizes went to Olly (Y1) and Aisha (Y5) while 3rd prizes were awarded to Freyja (Y1) and Nora (Y2) and Dixie (Y5).

Great idea and well done Brackenbury – an innovative way to cheer the patients whilst waiting in the surgery. A great community activity for the children
