A crash involving four vehicles in Brighton caused tailbacks during the rush hour this morning (Wednesday 13 December).

The accident happened just after 8.20am in Coldean Lane, near Old Boat Corner.

Coldean Lane, where there are roadworks, was blocked in both directions.

There were queues on the A270 Lewes Road as a result.

Ditchling Road was also affected on the Brighton and Ditchling side of the staggered junction as was Carden Avenue.

Traffic was also crawling along the A27 Brighton bypass to and from Patcham, with a queue at the Hollingbury slip roads.

Sussex Police said that Coldean Lane reopened to traffic at 8.47am.

Highways Agency staff were still believed to be trying to clear oil from the road after this.

Brighton and Hove Buses tweeted to flag up delays and diversions on the number 24 bus route. Services were back to normal shortly before 10am.
