Two schoolboys from Brighton have been arrested over the stabbing of a 16-year-old outside a Waitrose supermarket branch.

The 14 and 15-year-old were arrested this morning (Monday 5 March) and are currently in custody.

Sussex Police said: “Police investigating the stabbing of a 16-year-old boy outside the Waitrose store in Eastgate Street, Lewes, on Saturday evening (3 March) have arrested two suspects.

“A 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy, both from Brighton and neither of whom can be named for legal reasons, were detained on Monday morning.

“Both were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and affray.

“They are currently in police custody.”

Inspector Simon Burroughs, of Lewes Police, said: “Immediately following the disturbance extra patrols were mounted to reassure residents although this appears to have been an isolated incident.”

Sussex Police added: “Officers continue to appeal for anyone who saw what happened or who may have other information to contact police online or to phone 101, quoting serial 967 of 03/03.

“Alternatively, please visit the Crimestoppers website or contact the independent charity anonymously on 0800 555111.”

I think that in cases like this once these people have been found guilty they should be named. If they are able to go around carrying weapons then they obviously put the public in danger.
