Albion were undone by Champions League hungry Liverpool as the Reds, especially Mo Salah, put on a show for the Anfield faithful.

It was Salah who put Liverpool ahead in the 26th minute. And five minutes before half time after a lot of pressure Dejan Lovren doubled Liverpool’s lead.

Ezequiel Schelotto appeared to get out of position as Liverpool dominated. Shane Duffy got away with a blatant handball in the Albion penalty area.

Ten minutes after half time, Dominic Solanke made it three.

Albion looked a little lethargic but put up a bit of a fight. However, the Seagulls had not too much to play for, already attaining their highest finish since 1982 and, based on 22 teams in those days, comparatively Albion have now attained their highest ever finish in English football.

Andrew Robertson scored his first ever senior Liverpool goal to make it 4-0 and with Chelsea losing the Reds confirmed a Champions League spot irrespective of what happens in Kiev against Real Madrid in this year’s final later this month.

Yes, a team that had to beat Stockport County to stay in League one 9 years and 11 days ago today lost to the Champions League finalists in the Premier League. No complaints from us. Stockport lost at home to Chorley last week in the National League North. Five divisions below the Albion.

The Seagulls kick off the new Premier League season on the weekend of 10-12 August. The fixtures are due to be announced on Thursday 14 June.
