Five drink drivers from Brighton banned from the road

Annual summer crackdown on drink and drug drivers under way

Five drink drivers from Brighton have been banned from the road by the courts after being caught by Sussex Police during the annual Christmas crackdown.

They are among more than 130 people arrested by the force as part of its campaign against drink and drug driving.

Bradley Pickett, 23, a mechanic, of Chiddingly Close, Brighton, was arrested in Lower Rock Gardens, Brighton, on Saturday 1 December.

Pickett was charged with driving with 47 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms. He was also charged with driving without a licence or insurance and having cannabis.

Pickett was banned from driving for 36 months when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 20 December. He was also ordered to pay a £506 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge, making £621 in total.

Manzambi Adoph, 34, a cleaner, of Burstead Close, Brighton, was arrested in Carden Avenue, Brighton, on Sunday 2 December.

Adoph was charged with driving with 44 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

He was banned from driving for a year when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 20 December. He was also ordered to pay a £230 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge, making £345 in total.

Richard Marriott, 36, a driver, of Torcross Close, Brighton, was arrested in Richmond Place, Brighton, on Saturday 8 December and charged with driving with 78 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

Marriott was given a 17-month driving ban at Brighton Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday 27 December). He was also ordered to pay a £120 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge, making £235 in total.

Tracy Mackeddie, 51, a teacher, of Foxdown Road, Woodingdean, was arrested in Freshfield Road, Brighton, on Saturday 8 December.

Mackeddie was charged with driving with 86 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

She was also given a 17-month driving ban at Brighton Magistrates’ Court yesterday. She was also ordered to pay a £120 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge, making £235 in total.

Adrian Danis, 28, a chef, of Southall Avenue, Brighton, was arrested in Old Shoreham Road, Brighton, on Wednesday 12 December.

Danis was charged with driving with 66 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath and driving with no insurance.

He was also given a 17-month driving ban at Brighton Magistrates’ Court yesterday and ordered to pay a £720 fine, £85 costs and a £36 victim surcharge, making £841 in total.

    I notice are all from rough addresses. No-one from hove….probably all on benefits or in affordable housing

    Marcus, that is unfair, yes it is likely they are on benefits given where they reside, but you cannot link to affordable housing

    Marcus – its rude to say people on benefits. I am on benefits (because of my bad leg) I have five kids and have to survive off £2 grand a month from the tight tories. I live in a small 4 bed council house and my family have not had an holiday for a year. I couldnt afford to drink drive m8

      I worked all my life and never had £2 grand per month after tax. you’re bloody lucky to get that amount for doing nothing.

      A few statistics offered without comment…

      £2000 a month is equivalent to a salary of over £30000 a year. The average salary for full-time employment in Brighton is under £23000. The average salary for a staff nurse is just over £23000.
