Nine former councillors are standing for election to Brighton and Hove City Council at the local elections on Thursday 2 May.
Five of the nine are Greens, although one of them sat as a Labour councillor until 2007, three are Conservative and one hopes to return to the Labour benches.
The Greens include Christopher Hawtree, who chaired the Planning Committee for a year and stood down in 2015 when he ran as the party’s parliamentary candidate for Hove at the general election.
He won Central Hove ward from the Conservatives in 2011 – when the Greens took control of the council – but this time he is running in neighbouring Westbourne ward.
Sue Shanks, who chaired the Children and Young People Committee from 2011 to 2015, is also back in the frame.
She also won her previous seat from the Conservatives – in Withdean – but will be contesting St Peter’s and North Laine next month.
Another member of the former Green administration hoping to make a return in a neighbouring ward is Steph Powell.
She chaired the council’s Licensing Committee during the Greens’ tenure and represented Queen’s Park ward. She is standing in Hanover and Elm Grove this time.
Paul Steedman stood down in 2011 after four years as a councillor in Queen’s Park, having won his seat from Labour in 2007. He is a candidate in East Brighton.
The fifth Green hoping to make it back to the council chamber is Jack Hazelgrove who represented Moulsecoomb and Bevendean for Labour until 2007.
Anne Pissaridou won a seat in Wish ward in 2011 for Labour but was defeated in 2015. She is on the party’s slate in North Portslade.
The three Tories include Steve Harmer-Strange, who represented South Portslade until 2011 and who is standing in Goldsmid.
The other two Tories are Steve Wade and John Kapp. They are standing in Withdean and Regency ward respectively.
