A 23-year-old man from Brighton has been charged with trying to rape a woman in the grounds of the Royal Pavilion 10 days ago.
Andrew Ford, 23, a labourer, of Bramble Way, Stanmer Heights, Hollingbury, has also been charged with false imprisonment.
Ford has been remanded in custody and is due to be brought before magistrates tomorrow (Wednesday 19 June).
The complainant is a woman in her twenties who was reported to have been attacked on Saturday 8 June in the Pavilion Gardens.
Sussex Police said this afternoon: “A man has been charged with attempted rape and false imprisonment following an incident in Brighton’s Royal Pavilion Gardens in the early hours of Saturday 8 June.
“Andrew Ford, 23, a labourer, of Bramble Way, Brighton, was arrested on Saturday 15 June and taken into custody.
“He has since been remanded in custody to face the two charges at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 19 June.
“Detectives are continuing to investigate and anyone with any information which could assist in the investigation is encouraged to report it online or call 101, quoting Operation Cobalt.”
