A Hove community centre has sent out a plea to the public for help to refurbish their toilets.
Hangleton Community Centre posted a plea on Facebook saying the toilets are currently “falling apart and look hideous”.
The centre is run by charity, Hangleton Community Association, who has a lease for the building from Brighton and Hove City Council.
The charity is responsible for maintenance, upkeep and repairs but due to other emergency repairs recently, they don’t have the spare cash for the project.
Manager Gemma Powell said: “It’s embarrassing, because we’re taking rent from users and booking parties and we can’t give nice facilities in return.
“They deteriorated pretty quickly all of a sudden. The doors are falling off, they’ve got no more wood on the doors left to screw them back onto.
“We’re spending every single week now repairing something.
“Our floor lifted in 2020, and we were quoted £20,000 for a new floor. I managed to get £2,500 of materials, and then a few local companies came and fitted it for free.
“We’re looking for someone who wants to give something back to us.”
As well as the expense of a floor repair, the centre also had to repair a hole in the roof in 2022.
The community centre also suffered a loss in rent income when the Little Ducklings Pre-School, which operated from the centre, closed last year in November 2022.
Ms Powell said she would consider starting a crowdfunding campaign and asking local businesses to help out with donations.
Alongside hiring out rooms and offices from 8am to 5pm each day, the community centre provides many services to local residents including a laundry room, clothes bank and a warm space.
