A Chinese takeaway in Rottingdean has been ordered to stop letting people sleep on the ground floor by the fire service after an inspection.
Li’s Sizzling House in Nevill Road was served with prohibition notice after East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service found it had “inadequate protection of the means of escape” and “inadequate fire detection and means of raising the alarm”.
A staff member at Li’s Sizzling House said that after the notice was served in July, remediations have now been made.
The prohibition notice directs the owners, saying: “No person to sleep on the ground floor of the property until the matters specified above have been remedied.”
The staff member told Brighton and Hove News: “We have done the improvements and they are happy.
“No one was living there, staff took breaks there but they do not anymore because of the fire brigade.”
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said it was unable to comment for legal reasons.

I think the title would be better if it noted that improvements were made to allow this to happen.
It also need clarifying where they were sleeping.
Big difference between them sleeping on the floor of the restaurant area than if they had proper rooms and bathrooms at the back

So they get to sleep where? Perhaps these workers have nowhere else to go.
Are they migrant workers? If so they need support. Are they working illegal, they need support.
You’ll find across the world restaurant staff nap or rest where they can. I used to (non migrant, non illegal, bar work) take my breaks at the staff fire door.
Don’t punish the workers punish the system
Indeed, this was simply an instruction to the owner to improve the fire safety for the residents there’s which they did!
I personally have no issue with live-in workers. It is simply an additional indication of housing capacity at the moment in Brighton.

Nothing dodgy here…. To comply with fire safety regulations there has to be a clear means of raising the alarm and escape, this is slowed down when persons are sleeping.
There may have been rooms to sleep in on the ground floor….. Not on the floor.
This is standard fire safety and forms part of any decent and competent fire risk assessment.
This is not appearing to me to be about migrant workers, staff sleeping on a floor etc. Just fire safety
There’s nothing to suggest in this article that anyone was sleeping on a floor. Just THE ground floor of the building.
