A trial date has been set for a Brighton man who has been charged with trying to rape a small child.
Jack Winstanley, 22, of no fixed address, formerly of Grand Parade and Widdicombe Way, both in Brighton, is due to stand trial on Monday 12 April next year.
At Hove Crown Court, it was estimated that the trial by jury – for attempted rape and causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent – could take three weeks.
Winstanley denies both charges which relate to offences that were alleged to have happened in March 2021.
Judge Christine Henson remanded Winstanley on conditional bail, ordering him not to contact the complainant.
When the defendant was charged, Sussex Police said that it followed a report of a two-year-old girl having suffered “significant injuries”.
The offences were alleged to have happened at a flat in Clarendon Road, Hove.
The identity of the child is protected by law.
