Brighton University is offering £80,000 for a new director of estate and facilities management.

The university said that the successful candidate would be its principal adviser on estate strategy and manager of a wide range of projects.

Its advert for the post said: “Applicants should be educated to degree level, hold a full professional qualification in a relevant discipline, and have a record of successful operation at a senior level in the estates field.”

The department of estate and facilities management at Brighton University is responsible for the management and development of the university’s estate.

The aims include maintaining and improving the environment in which members of the university community study, work and live.

The estate includes more than a hundred buildings at four main sites – three in Brighton and one in Eastbourne. It also includes premises in Hastings.

Among the major works the new director will oversee are the sports hall being built as part of the Falmer regeneration project and the bio science building at the Moulsecoomb site.

The closing date for applicants is 13 November.

The post was being advertised as the university began part-funding a liaison officer from Sussex Police.

PC Donna Bagguley, who has spent more than 12 years policing in Brighton and Hove, will work full-time with the university and its 21,000 students over the five campuses.

She will offer advice to students on personal safety, crime prevention and community issues, according to a press release issued by he university.

Police Community Support Officer Jayne Whitfield has been working with the university but this is the first time that the university has funded its own PC.
