KFC bids to open until 3am

KFC bids to open until 3am

A branch of KFC in a high-crime area of Brighton is asking permission to open until 3am

The London Road branch of the fried chicken chain currently opens until midnight – the same time as branches in Western Road, Brighton and Blatchington Road, Hove and an hour later than in Boundary Road, Portslade.

Franchisee Supercharger Central Limited, owned by Raja Adil, is applying to extend the opening time by three hours.

It took over the branch from previous franchisee Caskade Caterers in June, the day before Caskade went into administration. However, because the last late opening licence expired in July, it is having to apply for a new one.

If the extended hours are granted, it will be the only fast food outlet in that area of Brighton to be open that late.

Brighton Chicken and Pizza and Surf n Fries both have a licence to open until 2am, as does the World’s End pub.

Subway, McDonald’s, Salt and Charcoal and Nandos’s all have licences to open until midnight, as do Kaspas and Presuming Ed. Luxx Lounge has a licence to open until 12.30am.

Caskade Caterers was part of the Caskade group, owned by Hamid Ali, which ran KFC franchises across the south of England before going into administration in June.

Forty of the franchises – including Brighton and Portslade – have been sold to Adil Group, which Supercharger Central Limited is part of.

Adil Group runs fast food franchises, which its website says includes 75 KFCs, 16 Burger Kings, over 50 Costa Coffees, and more than 29 Taco Bells, across the UK.

The consultation period for the 3am opening licence application closes on 12 September. London Road is not in the council’s cumulative impact zone, in which new premisea applications are more difficult to obtain.

No way, should be first made to make decent food, the London road branch is poor compared to the boundary road place,

All these places are High Crime as there is drink and no police presence.

A new company just formed with no history, taken over assets of another company recently insolvent. There is no case put forwards for the serving of a need in the area. and there is no history that can give any confidence that this franchise holder will last the course.

      Really solid argument there, Ian.

Don’t mind as long as the road is policed more. No police, no extended hours.

Surf n Fries closed a while back, it’s a Noodles bar now. The fruit shop in London Road has very late opening hours, passed it at 2am and still open.

This article is incorrect in stating it will be the only fast food outlet open that late in the area store. Dominos is open until 4am

More importantly, majority of those with be L plates working commercially, something I personally feel creates a dangerous environment on our roads as qualified drivers navigate in a way to protect them from their often inexperienced mistakes on the road.

I can understand the desire to have KFC open until 3am on London Road due to the massive regeneration of the road with new student flats, and the slow but sure removal of the previous dross and low-status shops like Iceland, Peacocks and Poundland, which amounted to a pavement full of cigarette-sucking obese tracksuits waiting for the no1 bus to take them home to the rest of the day on the sofa, but the Deliveroo scooters have already become a menace to buses.
The answer is to insist that all delivery food comes out of a kitchen on an industrial estate and not from individual city centre premises that struggle to serve both delivery and footfall. One big industrial shed, and all fast-food chains can have their own space. It makes so much sense.

Ignoring the first part, but a centralised food delivery building is an interesting idea to me, although you do risk those businesses since the footfall business is separated from the delivery, potentially making the former unviable.

It’s an argument that is shown in centralised pharmacy systems a lot.

I wait for my bus there after work. Have you considered that you are a complete snob. Some of us have to hard graft for a living and buses are how we do that.
