Brighton & Hove Albion: All bar none – Goalless draw but Albion go 4th

Peterborough United 0 Brighton & Hove Albion 0

The Seagulls struck the woodwork twice at London Road this evening (Tuesday 16 April) in a hard-fought draw with lowly Posh.

Matthew Upson saw his header come back off the underside of the bar just past the half hour.

Albion had most of the possession culminating with a flurry of corners.

Tommy Rowe and Grant McCann had chances for the home side.

In the second half the Posh tried to take the game to Albion, with Upson making a fine intervention midway thought the half.

Rowe missed the chance of the match with ten minutes remaining, side-footing from a couple of yards with the goal at his mercy.

Before the end Wayne Bridge weaved his way through the Peterborough defence but his goalbound shot was deflected wide.

From the resulting corner, which was initially cleared, Liam Bridcutt was able to cross the ball back into the penalty area where Albion rattled the woodwork again as Andrew Crofts headed against the crossbar.

The Seagulls, who face Blackpool at the Amex on Saturday, currently occupy 4th place in the Championship with 66 points.

A win on Saturday and a failure of Leicester and Nottingham Forest to take all three points in their matches would mean that the Seagulls were virtually guaranteed a play-off place.

Both teams played decently and cancelled each other out. The state of the pitch didn’t help. Interesting how you didn’t mention one of the biggest moments of the match when Crofts clearly took out one o their players as the last man and should have been sent off. We got lucky
