Brighton and Hove Albion have agreed to sign an 18-year-old winger for £21.5 million on a five-year deal.

The club said: “Brighton and Hove Albion have agreed the signing of winger Zadok Yohanna from AIK Stockholm on a five-year contract until June 2031 for undisclosed terms.

“Zadok will complete his move to the club when the transfer window reopens and it will be subject to the usual regulatory approvals.

“The 18-year-old Nigerian, who turns 19 later this month, will join us having established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe after making a big impact in Sweden’s top division this season.”

Albion head coach Fabian Hürzeler said: “I’m looking forward to working with Zadok. Having seen his games and his attributes, he is a player that can impact games in the final third.

“He’s still young and will need time to adapt to the club and Premier League but he’s an exciting player to watch and he brings the kind of creativity we know our fans will enjoy.

“He’s dynamic, has pace and likes to take players on. His attributes and ability will be a real addition to our attacking options.”

Albion added: “Zadok began his career at the Ikon Allah Football Academy in Nigeria before moving to Sweden in 2025 where he quickly adapted to European football with AIK.

“He has made 18 appearances for AIK this season in the league and cup, scoring five goals and providing four assists.”

The Swedish top flight side signed Yohanna from Ikon Allah last July in a deal worth about £650,000, with a sell-on clause meaning that the academy will also profit from his move to Brighton.

Yohanna said that Brighton’s record of nurturing young talent was the driving force behind his move from AIK – and the club’s philosophy perfectly aligns with his ambitions and attributes.

He said: “I watch Premier League games a lot so I know the teams that use young players – and Brighton is one of them.

“They are really good at developing young talents and I think their style of play will fit me a lot.”

He also said that, while eager to get started with the Seagulls, leaving AIK was a tough decision, having built a strong bond with the club.

Yohanna added: “I had a lot of good people around me who took care of me. Everyone loved me so it was difficult to leave.”

He said that he had spoken to Hürzeler before agreeing his move, saying: “He urged me to keep fighting and working hard. I will give everything I have and I really want to win trophies with the team.”

Brighton were not the only leading club to show an interest in Yohanna. Chelsea, Newcastle United and Manchester City are understood to have made approaches.

There were also rumours linking the young winger with Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
