Curry and cocktails coming to The Lanes

An award-winning curry and cocktails restaurant is planning on opening in The Lanes.

Spirits and Spices, which has branches in Basingstoke and Andover, wants to move into a former hairdressers in Market Street.

Owner Nitin Patel has applied to install an extractor fan and to change the use to allow takeaways.

The application, written by ***, says: “Nitin Patil, alongside his wife Anushree, co-owns Spices and Spirits, an Indian restaurant with three establishments in Hampshire.

“Spices and Spirits has received several accolades, including being named Restaurant of the Year 2023 in the UK at the eighth Asian Food and Restaurant Awards International in December 2023.

“Additionally, the restaurant earned a Gold Seal from the Good Food Awards in November 2023, recognizing its consistent culinary excellence over three years.

“The hours of operation are to operate 7 nights per week with short opening times (between 6- 11pm / kitchen 6-10pm).

“The new premises will enable the business to grow and will result in a creation of local jobs.

“The development will bring a vacant unit back into active use, supporting local employment and contributing to the vitality of the centre.

“The proposed use is appropriate in principle for this location and consistent with surrounding commercial and food and beverage uses.

“The extraction system is designed to minimise visual, noise, and odour impacts, with the flue positioned discreetly to the rear and incorporating mitigation measures to protect neighbouring amenity and the character of the conservation area.”
