Man suspected of stoking tensions at demo

Police are appealing for the public’s help to identify a man suspected of stoking tensions in Brighton on the day when rival groups protested.

The man is believed to have made an “offensive gesture” when a group called Raise the Colours held a demo and another, Stand Up To Racism, held a counter-protest.

Sussex Police said: “Police would like to speak with the man pictured in connection with an allegation of racially or religiously aggravated public order in Brighton on Saturday 13 June.

“This appeal follows inquiries around an offensive gesture reportedly carried out during a protest.

“If you recognise the man in the image or have any information to report to help us identify him, we ask you contact police online or by calling 101, quoting reference 1264 of 14/06.”

Ask a certain politician (or sometime non-politician.) He’s probably got him on speed-dial or in his back pocket. Oh hang on, there’s no room in his back pocket!

Have the Police nothing better to do than chase idiots making rude gestures at each other.

I’m kinda in agreement here, although it depends on what the intention is here, rude gestures vs racially or religiously aggravated public disorder are very different issues.

Come on Sussex police, get a grip. Half of your officers get the sack for worse.

Depends on the gesture Davey. Thanks for making an important point though.

Roll straight down the middle, then people will see most of these people on both sides are rent a mob fools who can’t even point to the UK on the map, and the other lot will tell you Israel doesn’t insist. The point is be better to each other…….

Hard to tell when half the anti-immigration protesters look exactly like this dude – undercooked gammon.

I noticed several of the far right mob making Nazi salutes at the opposition – a gross insult to the 450,000 service personnel and civilians killed during the Second World War. Several commentators on this site however seem to think that this is alright…

That’s a key detail. Flipping the bird vs a Nazi salute are two different things.

If you must lie and make things up, it’s probably not best to lie about an event that was filmed wall to wall and has been extensively trawled through, and neither side gave a nazi salute at that protest and counter protest.
      Bear road residence hmmmm 🤔
On the evidence Bear Faced Liar if more befitting 🙄

Do you think it is not possible that throughout the entire day, across the entire march, there were elements that might not have not been filmed?

Another example where it would appear that hurt feelings warrant more police resources than theft, fraud, burglary etc.

Depends what the fact of the matter was. Police don’t tend to chase down cases that aren’t going to go anywhere, after all.
