A workman has been airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after falling 15ft while working on a construction site next to Stanmer House this morning.

The fall happened shortly after 8.30am this morning, and Brighton and Hove News understands the injuries are life threatening.

A spokeswoman for the South East Coast Ambulance said: “We were called this morning at 8.29am to a building site near Stanmer House in Brighton. It was a builder who had fallen from a height and possibly through a ceiling.

“Three of our crew attended the man, who had suffered serious head injuries and required airway management.

“The fire brigade was called to help extract the workman from the site to the waiting air ambulance.”

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “At 8.35am on Tuesday (30 September) emergency services were called to a construction site next to Stanmer House in Stanmer Park after a workman had fallen some 15 to 20 feet to the ground and had sustained a serious head injury.

“He has been taken by air ambulance to St George’s Hospital, Tooting. Police and the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) will be looking into the circumstances.”

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said: “The HSE is aware of the incident and we have launched a joint investigation with Sussex Police.

“The police are leading the investigation and HSE officers are also at the site.”
