Brighton couple praised for turning round city centre pub

A husband and wife team have won a top brewery award for turning around the fortunes of the Caxton Arms pub in Brighton.

Simon and Tanya Causton were awarded Shepherd Neame’s Turnaround Pub of the Year for transforming the North Gardens boozer into a vibrant meeting place for local groups like Brighton and Hove Albion football fans and Brighton Board Gamers.

Drawing on their experience of running bars in Thailand, they offer Thai food cooked by Tanya, a selection of cocktails and a sports cellar with pool as well as table tennis.

The pub was one of 13 of the brewery’s pubs and hotels across London and the south east honoured yesterday.

Awards were given for various aspects of running a successful pub, such as serving the perfect pint, dishing up consistently great food and being at the heart of the local community.
