The investigation into the causes of the bus crash in Brighton today (Monday 6 July) will continue tomorrow.
Martin Harris, managing director of Brighton and Hove Buses, said: “The causes of the collision between two of our buses this morning in North Street, Brighton, are still under investigation.
“I would like to express my personal concern for those that were injured in the incident and have been receiving medical attention and for our driver who is still receiving attention at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.”
Thirteen people were taken to hospital – two of them with life-threatening injuries, including the driver and a man travelling on one of the buses.
The pair went to the Royal Sussex, in Kemp Town, along with five other people.
Six casualties were taken to the Princess Royal Hospital, in Haywards Heath, South East Coast Ambulance Service said, with ten other people assessed at the scene not requiring hospital treatment.
Mr Harris said: “The investigation has continued through the police, VOSA and our own investigation team, who are examining all of the available information.
“These investigations will continue at least until tomorrow and will consider all possible causes of the incident.
“I would like to express our great appreciation for the tremendous work carried out by the police, the fire brigade, the ambulance service and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.
“They really were wonderful in dealing with this major incident.
“Praise is also due to the Brighton and Hove staff who were on the scene at the time of the incident and in particular our bus drivers Steve Allen, Richard Harting and Phil Alder.
“They provided tremendous help and support to the passengers involved and to the emergency services.
“I would also like to thank our supervisors, managers and engineers who were quickly at the scene to work with the police and the other emergency services.
“A big thank you must go to the shops and restaurants in North Street who, with customary Brighton spirit, were tremendous in providing assistance to all concerned throughout the day.
“Services will start to return to normal over the next few hours and the patience and understanding of our passengers during the disruption to services today is very much appreciated.”
