A thousand BHASVIC students sit A levels with most achieving A* to B grades

More than 1,000 students at Brighton, Hove and Sussex VI Form College (BHASVIC) celebrated A-level success this morning (Thursday 13 August).

The college recorded a 98 per cent pass rate with almost two thirds of the grades being A* to B.

BHASVIC students celebrate 20150813-1The college, in Dyke Road, Hove, said: “BHASVIC is celebrating yet another excellent year of AS and A-level results this year with exceptionally high numbers of students achieving top grades.

“1,088 students sat A levels in June 2015 with a massive 65.7 per cent of the grades they achieved – almost two thirds – at A* to B.

“Pass rates overall for A levels are 98 per cent.”

The college also said: “1,404 students sat AS levels in June 2015 and 51 per cent of the grades – over half – were at A* to B with a pass rate of 93 per cent.

BHASVIC students celebrate 20150813-2“Eighty one students gained three or more A grades at A level with many students achieving four A* grades this year including Shannon Bernard-Healey, Rory Fairhead, Oliver Nelson-Dummett, Billy Forsyth, Hal Ryan-Gill and Isaac Squires.

“BHASVIC students are reaping the rewards of their success as they move on to top universities in September with a record number of 37 offered places at Oxford and Cambridge.

“Nineteen students to date have successfully gained top places to study medicine.

“BHASVIC prides itself on being ‘open access’ – prospective students can study A levels here if they have achieved six or more grade Cs or above at GCSE.

“BHASVIC builds on students’ GCSE results and then improves students’ achievements still further from AS to A level ensuring that all students achieve their full potential.

BHASVIC students celebrate 20150813-3“Given these entry requirements, BHASVIC’s results are all the more impressive.”

BHASVIC principal Chris Thomson said: “That two thirds of our A-level grades were at A*, A or B is a breath-taking achievement even for a nationally reputed sixth form college like BHASVIC.

“Our partner schools, parents and above all our outstanding staff and students are absolutely to be congratulated.”
