The A27 has opened to traffic for the first time since the Shoreham airshow crash last weekend.
The Highways Agency reopened two lanes on the eastbound carriageway – for traffic heading towards Brighton – and one lane on the westbound side of the road.
The agency said: “The other lane of the westbound carriageway remains closed while police investigation work continues on the road verge.
“There is a 40mph speed limit in place and the traffic lights at the Sussex Pad junction, which were damaged in the incident, have been removed.”
Highways England area manager Angie Elliott-Dickson said: “Last weekend’s disaster was shocking and tragic and we at Highways England send our heartfelt condolences to anyone who has been affected.
“We have been working hand in hand with the police and other partners to help them in their vital investigation work and thereafter to repair the road as quickly as possible.
“Police investigation work is likely to continue near the road for some weeks and some delays are likely until we can return the A27 to full capacity.
“I’d like to thank drivers for their patience and understanding at this difficult time.”
The agency added that the road remains closed to pedestrians, equestrians and cyclists – and the bus stop on the westbound carriageway cannot be used.
Access to Coombes Road and Lancing College and Sussex Pad is for residents only and will be under police control.
HGVs wishing to each the airport and the businesses there by Old Shoreham Road must have the agreement of the airport and police in advance.
Public access to the airport remains available via the A283 and A259 but with a max height limit 2.1 metres.
