Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby has urged the police and council to move travellers on from land next to a cemetery in his constituency.
The Conservative MP said that travellers had set up camp next to the Woodingdean Lawn Memorial Cemetery this afternoon (Tuesday 22 September).
Mr Kirby said that he had written to Brighton and Hove City Council and Sussex Police urging them to take prompt action.
He wrote after being contacted by a number of concerned constituents and said: “This is not the first time that we have had unauthorised traveller presence on the land adjacent to the Woodingdean Lawn Memorial and my constituents are worried that we will have a repeat of the disrespectful incidents that happened last time.
“Local people in Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven are very concerned about the continual unauthorised traveller encampments we have had recently and also the time it takes for the council and the police to move them on.
“I need to reassure my constituents by advising them when this will happen and I have asked the council and the police to advise me accordingly.”
