Four Brighton and Hove drink drive cases in first week of police crackdown

Four people have been charged with drink driving or related offences after being arrested in or around Brighton and Hove in the first week of the annual crackdown by Sussex Police.

They are among 45 drivers to have been arrested by the force since the Christmas drink and drug driving campaign began last Tuesday (1 December). Of those, 22 have been charged.

Alecio Vieira, 33, a waiter, of Newmarket Road, Brighton, was arrested at Beddingham roundabout near Lewes on Sunday (6 December). He was charged with having 106 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath in his system – three times the legal limit of 35 micrograms.

Shelley Critcher, 28, a medical receptionist, of Mount Felix, Walton-on-Thames, was arrested in Marina Way, Brighton, also on Sunday. She was charged with having 82 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of her breath – more than twice the legal alcohol limit.

Todd Tidswell, 20, a shop worker, of The Broyle, Ringmer, was arrested in Lewes Road, Brighton, on Friday (4 December). He was charged with failing to provide a specimen, driving without insurance, having a class A drug and a Class B drug.

Mustafa Neheili, 23, an assembler, of Marston Road, Oxford, was arrested in Ditchling Road, Brighton, also on Friday. He was charged with having 51 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of his breath.

All four are due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 21 December.

Sussex Police said: “People can text officers on 65999 with the details of people they suspect of drink or drug driving or visit www.operationcrackdown.co.uk.

“You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 (www.crimestoppers-uk.org).

“If you know someone is driving while over the limit or after taking drugs call 999.”
