Remember the walk-in centre, Brighton and Hove health chiefs urge as pressure grows on A&E

Brighton doctors’ surgery requires improvement

Brighton and Hove health chiefs are urging people to remember the walk-in centre as pressure grows in local accident and emergency (A&E) departments.

They said: “People with minor illnesses and injuries are being urged to use the Brighton Station Health Centre, helping free up emergency care services for those most in need, as the heatwave and summer holidays add pressure on local services.

“The last few months have been extremely difficult for the NHS across the country, especially in A&E departments and local GP surgeries as they cope with increasing numbers of people seeking treatment during the heatwave and summer holidays.

“To help ease this pressure on local services, the NHS is urging people with minor infections and rashes, stomach upsets, superficial cuts and bruises, minor burns and strains to visit Brighton Station Health Centre for treatment.”

“There is no need to be a registered patient or to make an appointment to use the walk-in centre and it offers quick treatment close to home from 8am to 8pm in the city centre.”

The plea came from the Brighton and Hove Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

It said: “A website at www.sussexhelpmy.nhs.uk highlights all the other alternatives to A&E visits and has searchable listings on the most appropriate services available across Sussex to treat a range of illness and injuries.”

The CCG’s clinical David Supple said: “If you do need urgent care that is not an emergency, you can get treated quickly without an appointment at the Brighton Station Health Centre.

“It offers easy access to quick treatment from 8am-8pm Monday to Sunday.”

Dr Supple added: “Everyone can #HelpMyNHS by choosing the right service at the right time, freeing up emergency services for those most in need.”

But the walk-in clinic is being closed down! So people are told to use it but it won’t exist for much longer? Is there a plan for another walk-in in central Brighton?
