New images of hit and run moped released as reward doubled to £1,000

Police have released further images of a moped involved in a hit-and-run in Brighton, and increased the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction to £1,000.

Nine-year-old Logan Dore was riding a scooter when he was struck by the moped, which failed to stop, in Whitehawk Road about 12.15pm on Sunday 16 September.

The incident was captured on CCTV, which was released by police on social media.

Logan was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital following the collision, but has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

Police have since obtained clearer CCTV images of the moped, its rider and pillion passenger – captured in nearby Findon Road shortly before the collision – and are appealing for anyone who recognises them to get in touch.

The reward for information which leads to an arrest and conviction has also been increased to £1,000.

Chief Inspector Rachel Swinney said: “I am extremely grateful to everyone who has assisted in our investigation so far, however I’m still appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

“Do you recognise either the rider or the pillion passenger, or have you seen this moped in the local area? Alternatively, have you received any information about who was riding the moped?

“This was a very distressing incident which left a young child with significant injuries, and I remain determined to trace whoever is responsible.”

The vehicle, which is believed to be stolen, is described as silver and black, with a rear luggage box, and is suspected to have some damage as a result of the impact.

The rider was wearing a black full face helmet, a dark coloured jacket, black trousers with a thick white stripe running vertically and black trainers.

The pillion passenger was wearing a silver full face helmet, a grey hoody with black sleeves, grey jogging bottoms, and black trainers with a white sole.

They were travelling south at the time the incident occurred.

A 16-year-old boy from Brighton has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and released on conditional bail until 17 October, pending further enquiries.

Police are continuing to carry out covert and overt operations in Brighton and Hove, targeting known motorcycle thieves, and in recent weeks have made a number of arrests.

Anyone with any information about the collision is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting Operation Par.

Alternatively, you can visit the Crimestoppers website or contact the independent charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
