5 things we don’t want to see happen next – as we reflect on Brighton & Hove Albion’s loss at Manchester City

Manager of Brighton and Hove Albion’s women team dismissed after allegations

1) A media  and message board frenzy, stirring up Albion’s next match at home to Burnley as a must win fixture – although to be frank (and we are very much here at Brighton and Hove News) it pretty much is.

2) The Amex faithful getting on Graham Potter’s back if the Seagulls struggle against Burnley. Many will remember poor old Martin Hinshelwood limping across the Withdean turf, with his foot in a cast, being subject to a volley of abuse as Albion lost at home to Gillingham, at an equivalent stage of the 2002-03 season. In fact the parallels of Hinshelwood’s stint as boss and Potter’s tenure so far – three-goal away win to start, draw, then loss at home, followed by heavy away defeat – stir uncomfortable memories for Albion fans. Especially with what was to follow. I mean where do you find Steve Coppell these days?

3) Similar treatment of Neal Maupay! The £20 million striker has only found the net once so far in four matches. He has missed quite a few, shall we say, decent chances. For 20 mill, Albion fans will be expecting him to be that elusive 15 to 20 goal a season striker. Some say he needs a lot of chances to score. Others say he is already getting them.

4) The prospect of Chris Hughton, who was a guest panellist on Bein Sports live goal round up on Saturday, making a very dignified comment about Graham Potter’s demise as Albion manager – before Christmas.

5) Albion falling into that dreaded relegation zone or worse still losing at Chelsea later this month. By all accounts Frank Lampard’s team are awful at the moment.
