An armed robber made off with cash after holding up a Hove post office this morning.
The man robbed the post office in Melville Road, just off Dyke Road and near the Seven Dials, shortly after 10am.
Sussex Police said that he appeared to be armed with a handgun and was seen heading off on foot towards Julian Road.
He was described as light-skinned, in his 30s, wearing a black Parka-style jacket and a woollen hat.
Sussex Police said: “A man carrying what is believed to be a handgun entered the post office and threatened a customer and demanded money from staff.
“A quantity of cash was handed over and the man left.
“The two members of staff and customer were uninjured during the robbery.”
Detective Inspector Lee Horner said: “Witnesses are being offered support following this frightening ordeal.
“Fortunately no one was injured.
“Detectives are in the very early stages of investigating the robbery and are following a number of lines of inquiry, including carrying out forensic examinations.
“The man may have been hanging around the shops in Dyke Road before the robbery and he was seen heading off on foot along Julian Road in the direction of Hove afterwards.
“I’m keen to speak to anyone who saw him before or after the robbery and urge them to contact us immediately.”
