Protests punctuated the annual council tax and budget-setting meeting of Brighton and Hove City Council last night.
Anti-cuts campaigners, including several who fear for their jobs at the council, were vocal before, during and after the debate at Brighton Town Hall.
The mayor, Councillor Geoffrey Wells, adjourned the meeting twice after the heckling and chanting drowned out the politicians.
But Sussex Police removed just one protester from the public gallery in the council chamber during the stormy four and a half hour meeting.
This was despite warnings that the whole gallery might have to be cleared for the remainder of the meeting.
A number of people also watched the proceedings in an overspill room in the town hall.
But as the numbers in the public gallery dwindled, those in the overspill room were not allowed to take the empty seats in the council chamber.
This prompted further protests from the crowd and unsuccessful interventions from two Green councillors.
