Two of the 18 people arrested in Brighton yesterday (Saturday 2 June) will be brought before magistrates in just under three weeks’ time.

One of those arrested during the gathering of English nationalists and UK Uncut supporters – a 51-year-old man from Hull – was still in custody earlier.

Sussex Police said that officers were still investigating after the man was held on suspicion of criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.

He was also believed to have breached a notice served under section 27 of the Violent Crime Reduction Act – ordering him to leave the area.

The two men who have been bailed to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday 22 June are

  • Stephen Sands, 44, a roofer, of Norfolk Terrace, Brighton, who has been charged with throwing a firework in a public place
  • Michael O’Shea , 50, a courier, of Reculver Lane, Herne Bay, Kent, who has been charged with using threatening words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm and distress

Two men have been given police bail until Tuesday 11 September while police inquiries continue. They are

  • A 27-year-old man from Brighton who arrested for using threatening words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm and distress
  • A 49-year-old man from Worthing who was arrested for the same reason

Two men were issued with fixed penalty notices. They were

  • A 45-year-old man from Brighton for a breach of the peace
  • A 43-year-old man from Hull for being drunk and disorderly

Seven were cautioned and released. They are

  • A 30-year-old man from Brighton for using threatening words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of provoking unlawful violence
  • A 32-year-old man from Portslade for having cannabis and cannabis resin
  • A 49-year-old man from Shoreham for using threatening abusive words and behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm and distress
  • A 47-year-old man from Enfield, Middlesex for having cocaine
  • A 37-year-old man from Sittingbourne, Kent, for having cocaine
  • A 26-year-old man from Cambridge for using offensive language
  • A 27-year-old man from Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, for using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm and distress

Four others who were arrested have been released and face no further action. They are

  • A 53-year-old woman from Brighton who was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer
  • A 37-year-old man from Brighton who was arrested on suspicion of having heroin
  • A 45-year-old man from Bletchley, Milton Keynes, who was arrested on suspicion of failing to leave the area when told to by a police officer
  • A 50-year-old man from Bournemouth who was arrested on suspicion of using racial language while chanting
