A 47-year-old man suffered serious injuries when he was attacked in Brighton yesterday (Wednesday 3 April).
The victim suffered a puncture wound to his stomach and head injuries in the attack which happened at about 2.30pm in Oxford Place, Brighton.
Sussex Police arrested a 42-year-old man from Brighton shortly afterwards on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm (GBH).
The suspect has been bailed until Friday 14 June while officers make further inquiries about what they believe was a targeted attack.
The victim was treated for his injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.
Detective Constable Brad Lozynski, of Brighton and Hove CID, said: “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and we would like to hear from anyone who saw the incident or heard raised voices.
“It appears that the victim has received a puncture wound to his stomach. We are still investigating how this was caused.
“Members of the public came to the aid of the victim shortly after the attack and administered first aid to him. I would like to thank them for their actions.”
