Albion had chances to go in front but Owls keeper Chris Kirkland saved from Will Buckley and David Rodriguez who was deputising for the unwell Leo Ulloa.
Albion had many chances to score in the second half but were unable to beat their Hillsborough jinx.
With Ipswich taking three points off Derby, Albion slipped to ninth in the Championship. The Seagulls have a game in hand, keeping them in with a shout for the play-offs.
The side now face mid-table Middlesbrough at the Amex this Saturday (28 March).
