Yesterday (Thursday 25 September) the council obtained a possession order from Brighton County Court to evict travellers from Wild Park in Moulsecoomb.

The council and Sussex Police are also working together to evict a group and their vans from a patch of downland next to Devil’s Dyke Road, Brighton, close to the A27.

In an update the council said on its website: “Unauthorised encampment of travellers on land at Preston Park – we will be visiting this site with the police as soon as practicable to carry out a community impact assessment to determine the most appropriate course of action.

“Unauthorised encampment of van dwellers on land adjacent to Devil’s Dyke Road – we have successfully applied to the county court for a possession order and are in the process of arranging an eviction, should the occupants fail to leave the site voluntarily.

“Unauthorised encampment of travellers at Wild Park, Brighton – we have visited this site with the police. A possession order for this land was obtained in the county court yesterday, and we are arranging for an eviction to be carried out should the families fail to leave the site voluntarily.”

Does “as soon as possible” mean “after we’ve finished this enormous tea-break” or….?

It is like a giant merry go round move Thursdays so they know nothing will be done over the week end then it all starts again Monday.

Has any mention been made of the work taking place at the moment. Council workmen are at the Park installing bollards, presumably to stop the travellers entering the park. However, it seems this is definitely “closing the stable door” and will only serve to keep them on site.

When they evict them from one site, why don’t they follow them along the road to ensure they don’t simply enter another site? Too busy having a tea break?!
