‘Very high’ levels of air pollution forecast on south coast tomorrow

Friday's forecast, with red and purple areas the worst affected

The Government has warned people to reduce outdoors exercise tomorrow as very high levels of air pollution are forecast.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs says a combination of pollutants trapped near the ground, a light southeasterly flow bringing additional pollutants from the continent and, in addition, a small amount of Saharan dust in the air will raise pollution in the south east of the country.

Kent is set to be the worst affected, but air pollution levels in Brighton are also forecast to be much higher than normal.

However, clear Atlantic air is set to bring air pollution back to moderate levels over the weekend.

It says adults and children with lung problems, adults with heart problems, and older people, should avoid strenuous physical activity.

People with asthma may find they need to use their reliever inhaler more often.

And the general population is also warned to reduce strenuous activity outside, particularly if they develop a sore throat or a cough.

Meanwhile, Brighton and Hove seafront has today found itself shrouded in mist, as rising temperatures combined with cold seas combine to create a sea fret.

And for further information see the article ‘Park and ride at Preston Barracks and lorry emissions zone proposed to improve air quality’ that shows plans to reduce the increased pollution in the city caused, IMHO, by all the various congestion causing projects implemented over the last 4 years.

ASK THE GREENS WHY BRIGHTON/HOVE IS EUROPE’S POLLUTION CAPITAL

So Brighton pollution (and contribution to global warming) surge to new menacing levels in April 2015, as car fumes and ozone interact with a crazy Green policy that makes Brighton/Hove drivers frantically seek parking spaces (let alone affordable ones). Such parking cars explain at least 30% of Brighton/Hove’s vehicle pollution (particulates).
“Professor Donald Shoup at UCLA reviewed sixteen studies … between 1927 and 2001 in several cities around the world … On average about 30% of the cars were looking for parking” (Parking Reform, “Cruising for parking”, at http://www.parkingreform.org/cruising.html ).
I bet it’s even more in central Brighton.
The Greens’ mad war on drivers, especially but not only when parking, is a big reason why “BRIGHTON IS ONE OF THE MOST POLLUTED URBAN AREAS IN EUROPE … North Street, east of the Clock Tower, recorded an average of 114.3 micrograms of NO2 per cubic metre, almost three times] the EU-enshrined standard … in NO2 concentrations tables FOR EUROPEAN CITIES, BRIGHTON WOULD HAVE BEEN PLACED AT THE TOP, above Florence, Stuttgart, London and Paris” (Argus, 7.12.2013, at http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/10530814. These numbers are for 2012-13 – the new air crisis of April 2015 suggests that Green parking craziness, plus Greens’ numerous permanent roadworks leading to more long delays with engines idling and polluting, have made this even worse.
People of Brighton, vote Green for forty-storey Marina towers, endless untended roadworks, and the most polluted city in Europe!
