Brighton firefighters are to hold an open day at Preston Circus Fire Station in the summer.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that open days “give visitors a chance to meet firefighters, learn about fire safety and have fun”.
The fire service added: “Activities for kids usually include badge making, a chance to sit in a fire engine and special appearances by Fireman Sam and Welephant.”
The open day, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 18 July, is one of a series across the area and the fire service said: “Some events will have displays showing how we deal with road traffic collisions, with firefighters using cutting equipment to reach ‘casualties’.
“We also teach people about the dangers of trying to tackle a chip pan fire with water, with a dramatic demonstration, as well as get advice on keeping their homes and businesses safe.”
About 60 firefighters are based at Preston Circus which has three fire engines including the aerial ladder platform.
The fire service cancelled the open day last year because firefighters were taking industrial action over government changes to pensions.
Good to follow this up with some dates when known.
I know a small person that would be very interested, particularly if it coincides with a trip to the kids club at the Duke of Yorks.
