Brighton and Hove commuters head home early as Tube strike starts
Thousands of commuters are heading home early to Brighton and Hove as Tube workers prepare to go on strike this evening (Wednesday 8 July).
The 24-hour strike is due to start at 6.30pm although by mid to late afternoon delays were being reported on some lines, including the Circle Line.
The strike – over the introduction of night-time Underground trains on the Victoria Line, Northern Line and three other lines at weekends from September – is due to end at 9.30pm tomorrow (Thursday 9 July).
Three unions have called their members out from 6.30pm today. They are the RMT (Rail, Maritime and Transport Union), the TSSA (Transport Salaried Staffs Association) and Unite.
A fourth union – ASLEF (Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen) – has called its members out for 24 hours from 9.30pm.
