Thousands of commuters are heading home early to Brighton and Hove as Tube workers prepare to go on strike this evening (Wednesday 8 July).

The 24-hour strike is due to start at 6.30pm although by mid to late afternoon delays were being reported on some lines, including the Circle Line.

The strike – over the introduction of night-time Underground trains on the Victoria Line, Northern Line and three other lines at weekends from September – is due to end at 9.30pm tomorrow (Thursday 9 July).

Three unions have called their members out from 6.30pm today. They are the RMT (Rail, Maritime and Transport Union), the TSSA (Transport Salaried Staffs Association) and Unite.

A fourth union – ASLEF (Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen) – has called its members out for 24 hours from 9.30pm.
