Brighton firefighters rescue man from blaze believed to be arson
A man was rescued from a fire last night that firefighters believe was arson.
The fire service said: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a fire with persons reported in Brighton last night (7 July).
“Three fire engines from Preston Circus and Roedean, along with the aerial ladder platform from Preston Circus and two officers, were mobilised to the address on Essex Street at 11.07pm.
“On arrival they found there to be a fire in a second floor flat at the property.
“Crews used four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.
“Firefighters rescued one male casualty who was taken into the care of South East Coast Ambulance.
“The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious and is the subject of a joint investigation between ESFRS and Sussex Police.”
