An MP is asking voters for their views about a plan by Whitehawk FC to change the football club’s name to Brighton City.

Simon Kirby, the Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown, said: “Whitehawk FC has submitted a request to the FA to change its playing name to Brighton City with effect from the start of the 2016-17 season.

“I have been asked to give my opinion on this but as a firm supporter of both Brighton and Hove Albion and Whitehawk, I am asking my constituents to email me and let me know their views so that I can give a representative response.”

Constituents are invited to email their views to Mr Kirby at simon.kirby.mp@parliament.uk and include their full name and postal address.

Not wanting to appear pedantic, but Brighton is not a city – it is Brighton & Hove that is the ‘city’.

I Whitehawk is embarrassed by it’s name and reputation, then perhaps calling it Brighton Town, or even Kemp Town, would surely be a more, correct, term?

Pretty sure they ain’t embarrassed to be called whitehawk , the team play in whitehawk so think it should stys as whitehawk , I’m from whitehawk born and bred , altho I no longer live there my parents still love in the ame house I loved in from the age of 11 to 20 I’m certainly nott embarressed to be associated with whitehawk. At the end of the day it’s a council estate and a. Lot better than some local estates. There are a lot of very respectable people that love there but like all areas estates and a lot of private areas only need a couple of bad families to make the place sound worse than it really is ,
