Clear air gives clear view of Isle of Wight from Brighton hill

Exceptionally good visibility at sunset mean the Isle of Wight was clearly visible from Brighton last night, as this picture by Henry Hughes shows.

Although most of the island lies beyond the horizon from the standpoint of this part of the coast, the south of the island pokes above it.

At its highest point, St Boniface Down near Ventnor, the island is 241 metres above sea level. This photo was taken at the top of Hanover, at an altitude of 80 metres.

So nice to see what looks like a huge incinerator chimney as part of the view too, eh? 😉

The Isle Of Wight, although obscured from the seafront by Selsey Bill is frequently visible from other higher vantage points in the city.

I used to commute down Ditchling Road. The Isle of Wight is visible 20 or 30 days a year although it is easiest to spot at sunset

You can see it usually once a week or so from the top of Bear road:)

Excellent, will be able to see such things even more clearly from the “spacedick”. Which looks great.
