A light aircraft has crashed into the sea at Shoreham close to the shore this afternoon (Thursday 30 March).

Sussex Police said: “An aircraft has crashed into the sea at Shoreham.
“Emergency services were alerted at 3.50pm on Thursday (March 30).
“Two people are reported to have escaped from the aircraft, understood to be a Piper.
“They swam ashore after the plane came down quite close to the beach and are thought to be uninjured at this time.”
One of the police officers responding to the incident had a crash en route.
