Albion will face Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon at the Amex on Friday 3 August in a pre-season friendly.

It will be the Seagulls’ final warm up game before the Premier League campaign starts against Watford on Sunday 12 August.

The friendly will start at 7.45pm, with the club today reminding fans that there will be no public transport subsidies for the fixture nor park and ride.

Albion signed Argentine midfielder Ezequiel Schelotto from Sporting last August.

The club are one of Portugal’s big three – and have finished outside the top four only once in the past 10 years.

But they recently endured a disappointing end to their season, missing out on a Champions League spot on the final day of the season.

Their third place finish means that they qualify for the Europa League. They also lost the Portuguese cup final.

After a subsequent training ground attack by about 50 fans last month, seven players have left the club, including – yesterday – four members of the Portugal World Cup squad.

Brighton have three away fixtures lined up before the new season starts.

The side travels to the Cherry Red Records Stadium to face Wimbledon on Saturday 21 July.

Three days later, on Tuesday 24 July, the club takes on Charlton Athletic at the Valley.

Then it’s a trip to St Andrew’s on Saturday 28 July when Birmingham City play host.
