Police arrest Brighton man for attempted murder of rough sleeper in Pavilion Gardens

A gang of youths has been arrested on suspicion of attacking a rough sleeper in the centre of Brighton in the early hours of this morning (Monday 20 August).

Sussex Police said: “At 2.43am on Monday 20 August, police were contacted by South East Coast Ambulance following a report of a serious assault in Old Steine, Brighton.

“A man is reported to have been repeatedly punched and kicked by a group of youths at the location, close to St James’s Street.

“The victim, a 37-year-old man of no fixed address, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

“Following inquiries, police arrested nine people on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm in Black Lion Street shortly afterwards.

“They are seven men from Brighton and Hove, aged between 18 and 23, a 19-year-old man from London and a 22-year-old woman from Hove.

“They all remain in custody at this stage.

“Forensics investigations are currently being carried out and the scene.”

Not one of these culprits are youths. Youths aka young people are 11-17 year olds. Doesn’t deny the inhumanity if the act, but they weren’t youths that commited it.

Shall we just call them young? Drop the pedantic and discuss the issue. My money is on alcohol being the root cause. Brighton city centre like other cities across Britain are dangerous violent places. Yes these young people are responcible for their own actions even in a drunk state. But publican and nightclub owners bare responcibility too, it is not ok to sell young adults unlimeted amounts of alcohol ,to the point they are no longer in control of themselves, often already being aggressive, then turf them out onto our streets do the rest of society to deal with.
