Long waits for more than 9,000 patients at Brighton hospital

The urology service at a Brighton hospital has moved to Haywards Heath.

Instead of outpatients being seen at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton, they will have to go to the Princess Royal Hospital, in Haywards Heath.

The trust that runs both hospitals, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals, said: “A new £320,000 urology outpatient unit has opened at BSUH’s Princess Royal Hospital.

“The new unit brings together urology services on a single site. It is located next to Ansty Ward, the department that cares for urology inpatients.

“The purpose-built unit has eight clinical rooms that bring together the best in treatment facilities in an environment that promotes patients’ privacy and dignity.”

Sally Goodman, lead nurse for urology, said: “We have wanted for some time to bring our inpatient and outpatient services together on a single site.

“With the opening of this unit, we have been able to go one better and locate the services next to each other.

“This is great news for outpatients as we have the expertise and experience of the entire Urology Team to call on to support their care, as required.

“We are very happy with the new set up and have received positive feedback from the first patients to use the unit.”

The space vacated by the move of urology outpatients to its new home is being reconfigured to accommodate antenatal outpatients and the Lois Southon Ultrasound Suite.

      Agree for the treatment, but for 20 minute visits as followups to PSA results, takes far too much of the day out, & mucks up local patients accessabilty plans. Fortunately those that drive miss the waiting time for buses.

      Mid Sussex Times said;
      Brighton and Hove patients will still be able to be seen at the Royal Sussex County Hospital for outpatient appointments.

        Making a complaint to CQC and PALS, the newspaper article was quite incorrect, everything has gone to the Princes Royal, and there have been many complaints from Brighton area residents to go by bus just for 15 minutes check ups following PSA blood tests and to discuss the results. For those without a car, 2-3 hours both ways, ends up making a day of it.
