A fisherman has been fined for fishing without a licence by Brighton magistrates.
Gareth Holliday, 42, was prosecuted by the Environment Agency for fishing with a rod and line at Passies Pond, at Church Farm, Coombes, between Lancing and Bramber, in March.
Holliday, of Watling Court, in Butts Road, Southwick, pleaded guilty when he appeared before the bench in Brighton on Wednesday (7 August).
He was fined £40 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and prosecution costs of £127.47, making £197.47 in total.
The total came to almost two and a half times as much as the most expensive annual rod fishing licence which costs £82.
