A Brighton casino is gambling on a £5.2 million makeover, with work on the venue’s revamp due to start today (Tuesday 27 August).
The Grosvenor Casino is to become Pier Nine – “a 24/7 modern leisure, entertainment and gaming destination”, according the Rank Group, which owns the seafront business.
Rank said that the “entertainment hub” in the old ABC cinema building would employ 60 staff after work was completed later this year and the venue was officially opened early next year. The jobs would be a mix of full and part-time.
Grosvenor Casino Brighton general manager Bob Bowry said: “We’re excited to share our vision for Pier Nine with the Brighton community and our existing customers which, once complete, will bring a unique social experience to the city’s vibrant cultural scene.
“This is a major investment in a well-loved building on the seafront, creating new jobs in the local leisure and entertainment sector as well as a destination for the changing habits of those in search of memorable experiences under one roof.
“Pier Nine will be a 24/7 venue for work, rest and play and will be open to everyone who enjoys a vibrant atmosphere without the need for membership fees.
“The variety of fantastic food and drink on offer, as well as retro gaming and the excitement of traditional casino games will make Pier Nine a leisure and entertainment destination for all to enjoy.”
Rank said that Pier Nine would include “space to work and meet with friends and colleagues, stylish bars, modern eateries, two classic casinos, a variety of fun and competitive socialising games, as well as a private cinema and karaoke space to hire”.
