Naked bike ride returns

Cyclists dare to bare for Naked Bike Ride through Brighton

The Naked Bike Ride is returning to Brighton next month, with hopes of attracting 1,000 riders.

The ride will return to its traditional slot of the second weekend in June following the cancellation of 2020’s ride and the postponement of last year’s until August.

This year, organisers have asked electric scooter riders not to join the ride on police advice.

The ride will begin in Preston Park from midday on Sunday, 12 June, before riding off at 3pm through the centre of Brighton then Hove, before finishing at the naturist beach on Madeira Drive.

Riders strip off in order to highlight the vulnerability of cyclists on the UK’s traffic-congested roads.

The organisers said: “Everyone is invited to come along to ride or simply offer support, in continuing the urgent message that we have no choice for planetary survival but to reduce the use of fossil fuels especially in single occupant private cars.

“Human powered transport is an ecologically sound option which can be made enormously safer by the desirable reduction in cars on the road.”

Nakedness is encouraged but not a requirement. Under 16s must be competent cyclists, clothed, and be in the care of a responsible adult.

As well as electric scooters, organisers have asked people on skates, skateboards, hoverboards and runners not to join the ride.

From what I see with cyclists, many put themselves in danger. Passing a vehicle to get to the front NO MATTER WHAT it takes, even if the lights have been red for a while. A poor attempt at signalling, or not doing so properly. They stop in questionable locations, jump lights.

The only solution is for the Police to actually do something about the vulnerable people and speak to or hand them a penalty due to their errors. The more this happens, the less issues we see as cyclists are being treated fairly once and for all.

Squeezing past a large vehicle is dumb, stopping in front of the ASL is dumb (it renders the ASL box useless and moot.

A comment of absolutely no value or meaning. And one of utter ignorance.

“Passing a vehicle to get to the front NO MATTER WHAT it takes”

Funny, this is exactly what I see drivers doing to me all the time. No matter if it’s a pinch point and I’ve moved out to primary position for safety, no matter if we’re approaching a red light or a zebra crossing, no matter if there’s a blind junction ahead… certain drivists see a person cycling and lose all thoughts in their mind beyond Must Get In Front, as if being a two-wheeled and human-powered vehicle is contagious and if they wait even a moment their car will crumple up into a fixie of its own accord.

As a amateur photographer, this is one of my favourite days of the year. Lets hope for good weather.

    ‘Asks that under 16s….”

Why are under 18s asked to be nude, 16 and 17 year old are still children.

Why isn’t the police checking the harddrive of the male organiser
