Trans Pride scraps Brunswick Square party after extreme weather warning

The organisers of Trans Pride have scrapped plans to hold a party in Brunswick Square, in Hove, tomorrow (Saturday 15 July) after the Met Office issued a severe weather warning.

They said: “Sadly, due to tomorrow’s extreme weather conditions we have been forced to change venues for our park event in Brunswick Square.

“We’ve not made this decision lightly but we feel we have no choice due to concerns regarding the safety of the performers, vendors, volunteers and attendees in an open area.

“We have decided instead to hold the event in various venues in central Brighton.

“Please beware that the planned route for the protest march will also be changed but both events will go ahead.

“As many of you know, we suffered significant financial losses this year so a low turnout poses a threat to Trans Pride Brighton.

“We will be unable to keep the Trans Pride Centre open as well as continue with our events and protests in the coming year if we do not raise significant funds this year.

“So if you planned to attend tomorrow please do show up and support regardless of venue.

“We’d like to say a massive thank you to all the venues that have taken on the event at such short notice.

“If you’re able, any donation to the Trans Pride Centre fundraiser will help us overcome this situation.”

Great news. The square is too small for a large protest event like this. What were the council thinking ever allowing it in there in the first place. Apparently, 30,000 people turned up this year and the gardens would have been trashed.

I do not think it a “protest event” but a celebration?

Be that as it may, today turns out to have been rather sunnier than predicted, although the wind means that one has to jand onto one’s “bippety-boppity hat”.

A great phrase which existed a few decades before David Bowie gave it wider currency.

      “Great news”

What a nasty thing to say.

Imagine you’d been organising an event and at the last minute had to change the arrangements because of some thing outside of your control.

Imagine the someone else said it was “great news” that your event had been changed.

Wouldn’t be too happy would you?

So think on and be kinder in future.

They weren’t kind when they refused for years to move their event when residents no longer wanted it in the square. It was originally agreed on as a one-off basis for 800 people and we welcomed them but for years they refused to move it when it became too large for the square. They just damaged the gardens and walked off. We had to kick the Greens out of the ward as no one would listen to us on it. As for not being a protest event these are their words. It is clearly described as being a Protest March.

What, nothing to do with the massive fire that happened in the TRANS hotel party.

It was great news for me, these people were flashing signs saying F@@K Binarys, and similar offensive crap, it smoked them out and now its kinda normal again round here. Beautiful…
