‘Why is it raining inside the bus?’ Student films rain leaking through roof

A student has called for Brighton and Hove Buses to fix its fleet after filming rain leaking through the roof of a bus.

Ellie, 21, was on a 25 bus from University of Brighton to St Peter’s Church today at around 12:15pm when they filmed the leak.

They posted the footage on X (formerly Twitter) today, asking: “Why’s it raining INside the bus AGAIN?”

They also commented saying: “Please fix your buses.”

The 25 route used to be served by Brighton’s famous bendy buses, which were scrapped after more than a decade on the roads last year.

The 22-strong fleet was replaced with more environmentally friendly double-deckers after it became more difficult to get replacement parts.

Brighton and Hove Buses were contacted for comment and said this bus would be repaired.

Were are these buses as the 25 route has some of the oldest buses in the fleet. Hence the rain inside.

They never replaced the fleet, they used spare/old stock from other routes

Hmm, Don’t believe everything you read or are told by B&H buses. These bandies weren’t wanted by the new MD and he didn’t want the Red and Cream either.
Spare parts are available, other operators of the same type/batch seem to be having no trouble keeping there’s on the road.
So the 25 artic buses often came through full and standing, so around 100 passengers making them worthy of their use. What was wrong, using a couple for parts to keep the others running if there was a parts issue. As we’ve seen, passengers are being left behind because there’s not enough buses on the route, I bet they only put 22 doubles on and not an extra couple to cope with the loadings.

It’s not only the 25s it’s also the old Scania busses they put on the 50s the seats are wonky you sit crocked no padding in them no suspension on the busses so you feel ever bump and pot hole in the road they also leak , awful service throughout.

Much as I find this entertaining, I am not watching the video as I dislike X and its owner whom I find abhorrent.

Since 2020 Brighton and Hove hasn’t ordered a new bus The fleet is aging and the quality of service will decline which is a real shame

They didn’t replace them with new busses, they moved some old busses from some of their London company down here.
Bring back the bendy busses or buy the 3 axil versions of the Alexander Dennis, the small double deckers are to small for this route if they are going to be run so inconsistently

Binned the bus off a long time ago. E scooter it out to falmer and back at a fraction of the cost and it’s quicker

I know a retired B & H fitter who told me that the extremely rough ride is caused by the rough road surfaces which in turn, wreck the suspension and make the ride even rougher. When I mentioned the jerky rides, he said that it’s nothing to do with poor driving skills as the buses have fully automatic gearboxes, wrecked by Brighton s hills, keep doing hill starts with around 6 tons of passengers. Some buses have badly worn cloth coverings on the seats, makes one wonder just how badly worn is the rest of the bus? Guess some are barely roadworthy. Perhaps some safety checks should be made by some organisation independent of the bus company?

Whilst I appreciate a bit of a drip on the bus is a minor inconvenience, it is far better than standing at the bus stop waiting for a bus in the pouring rain because someone has moaned about it leaking and it’s been taken off the road to be fixed!
