‘Hidden Herd’ have announced the June lineup for their monthly new music showcase concert which is to take place at The Hope & Ruin in Brighton. This time around the date for your diary is Wednesday 12th June and the acts performing showcase sets are The DSM IV, Owners Club, Jopy and The Ringards.
Let’s meet the bands….
The DSM IV
The DSM IV, formed by Guy McKnight of critically acclaimed cult favourites The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, present a dark sound blending noise-rock, synth-pop, and industrial elements to deliver a unique musical experience. Their powerful soundscapes are cacophonous and epic, featuring rich textures, melodic hooks and thought-provoking lyrics that both entertain and encourage introspection. The release of last year’s debut album, ‘NEW AGE PARANOIA’, saw the band unveil an impressive collection of stories, beats, guitars and noise, seamlessly weaving together sobering but dream-filled songs that explore the ways in which our collective minds are influenced by mass media, entertainment industries and social media. On the road, The DSM IV have headlined packed-out rooms across the UK, recently appeared at ‘Mutations Festival’, and have shared stages with the likes of John Cale, Warmduscher, Ladytron, The Wytches and Deadletter.
Owners Club
Owners Club are a Dorking-based pub rock four-piece, signed to Brighton favourites Goo Records (The Stanford Family Band, Jopy and past releases from Welly and Canned Pineapple) and backed by BBC Music Introducing. On the back of three thrilling singles, their self-titled debut EP landed in October and was described by Notion Magazine as “blending elements of post-punk and indie rock with a grungy, joyous, and radiant spirit”. Their live shows have a relentless, electrifying energy taking the audience down numerous sonic corridors; gritty guitars entwine with pulsating synths and lyrical themes such as witchcraft, vampires, doggy pageant shows and the long-discontinued Double Diamond beer are explored. Although a headline band in their own right, Owners Club have shared stages with the likes of Geese, L.A. Witch, WOOZE, The Bug Club and Buzzard Buzzard.
Jopy
Exciting newcomers Jopy describe their vibrant sound as “energetic indie-pop to mosh to”. Underpinned by a punk spirit and topped with poetic lyrics, their music is already winning devoted fans thanks to two hook-packed self-produced singles, ‘Headshot’ and ‘Ka Ka Killer’. Led by Jo Parnell, the former singer-songwriter of hotly-tipped Reading band The Keep Cats, the project initially started as a solo venture before evolving into a dynamic three-piece. So far, they’ve played Readipop Festival, supported fast-risers Noah and the Loners and have been championed by BBC Music Introducing in Berkshire. Their much-anticipated debut EP will be released on 12” vinyl via brilliant Brighton-based tastemakers Goo Records (Owners Club, The Stanford Family Band and past releases from Welly and Canned Pineapple) later in 2024.
The Ringards
Named after the French word meaning “out of fashion”, The Ringards are an avant-garde, post-punk outfit based in East London. Devilish in delivery and drenched in sardonic lyricism, the six-piece exude raw energy reminiscent of the late 70s, combining various genres into an unconventional sound all their own. Across a string of “junk punk” singles, they’ve been championed by the likes of BBC Music Introducing, Fred Perry Subculture, and Far Out Magazine. They’ve also brought their high-octane live sets to packed out crowds across the capital – such as The Shacklewell Arms, Windmill Brixton, The Lexington and, most recently, Peckham Audio with Opus Kink – as well as ventured across the Channel where they sold out the Supersonic in Paris. On an upward trajectory, The Ringards have just finished recording their debut album, set to be released this summer.
