How do you think you’d perform as a traitor hunter? Can you spot a liar or saboteur? Or on the other side of the divide, would you be able to murder your fellow contestants with a clear conscience?
While only a very lucky few get to join Claudia at her Highlands castle, Brighton and Hove News was asked to experience a similar version at Adventure Connections‘ Brighton Pavilion Gatehouse this month.
The self-catering townhouse, opposite the Royal Pavilion, and Office Christmas was hosting an Imposters Dinner Experience, created by West End Events.
For copyright reasons, it’s very important to note that there were no traitors present – instead, imposters were selected from the guestlist, and we all found out who had been chosen when we opened scrolls with our name on as we sat around the dining table.
I’d convinced myself I would be a faithful, so it was a thrill when I saw the word Imposter at the top of the night’s instructions.
My task – to sabotage the two party games we were about to be asked to complete by getting the rest of my team to include certain words in their answers.
The first task, which we were given over our starters, was to come up with three unusual things all or most of the group shared in common. I had to get them to include something sleep-related, and I am not going to reveal here whether the story about nude sleepwalking I contributed was true or not.
For the second we had to remember a list of a couple of dozen treachery-related items like dungeons, candles, cloaks. I have to confess that by this point, I completely forgot I was meant to include the word dagger. Let’s blame the great food, courtesy of Dine Indulge.
After each round, there was a vote – in which the faithful were voting to banish a suspected imposter and the imposters were voting to murder someone.
Obviously I voted for the person who I had the least eye contact with around the table – but even this crafty tactic didn’t stop me being unveiled on the second round. I am clearly more of a Linda than a Cat.
It was surprisingly nerve wracking being the imposter and I have no idea how you’d be able to maintain it for more than a couple of hours. But for the duration of a three-course dinner was a lot of fun.
West End Events will be launching the format as the Imposters Christmas Party in December.
