Berlin, 1929: a young writer, Christopher Isherwood, walks the streets pulsing with life. His work captures a city and a society on the brink, illuminating the lives of outsiders, the rhythms of daily life and the fragile, often unseen spaces where identity, desire and conscience intersect.
Known as ‘The Berlin Stories’, these wonderful stories give an insight into the sexual freedom of the Weimar Republic. Created from Isherwood’s own diaries, letters, memoirs and fiction, they are a unique window into this world.
As part of this year’s Charleston Festival, actor and singer Olly Alexander will perform an intimate reading, highlighting how these themes remain relevant today and celebrating the work.
The Charleston Festival, now in its 37th year, has continually brought together strands of literature and art to demonstrate the value of the works on offer, and this year the lineup features a wonderful array of performers.
The event is taking place at Charleston Farmhouse on Monday 25th May at 7.30 pm, with tickets available from £10. Tickets are available from the Charleston Festival Website.
